Our primary business is to provide multi-planar reformats and 3-D views for dentists and surgeons planning pre-operatively the placement of dental implants in the maxilla or mandible. The co-founders of the company are all professionals in dentistry, implantology, medical physics and computer software development.

IDT has built up considerable expertise in working with CT datasets over the years and we are able to read most types of computer media and convert most images to the latest DICOM format.

About IDT Ltd.

Image Diagnostic Technology Ltd was founded in 1991 specifically to address the difficulties in arranging and reformatting dental CT scans - and has experienced rapid growth year after year. Starting as a small company servicing the London area, we now work in conjunction with network of CT scanning sites servicing the whole of the UK and Ireland.

Image Diagnostic Technology Ltd provides radiological services such as organising CT scans and reformatting the images to make them suitable for surgical planning. We also provide a data conversion service and can convert most CT formats to the DICOM standard.

Image Diagnostic Technology Ltd trains the radiographers at the hospital scanning sites and provides them with a detailed protocol specific to their CT scanner model. The protocol is designed specifically to achieve the best possible image quality at a radiation dose as low as reasonably achievable. IDT refers a large number of scans to each site and in this way has the power to negotiate the best possible rates.

Image Diagnostic Technology Ltd also runs seminars and courses to assist dentists and surgeons who are referring patients for CT scans and to help them in interpreting the results.

SimPlant software, SurgiGuide drill guides and Stereolithographic models, as well as the i-CAT Cone Beam 3-D Dental Imaging System, are supplied by IDT Dental Products Ltd in the UK and Ireland.

CT scans and data conversion services continue to be provided by Image Diagnostic Technology Ltd in the UK and Ireland.

SimPlant & SurgiGuides

IDT's aim has always been to improve patient care and safety and to achieve the best possible results for dental implantology and reconstructive surgery by the provision of modern imaging technology.

Today IDT can achieve this aim with SimPlant- the latest implant planning software. The dental surgeon can place "virtual" implants into an interactive 3D model of the patient's bony anatomy, assessing bone quality and availability. Important factors such as the height of the alveolar bone, buccolingual dimensions and contours of the ridge, and the position of the alveolar nerve can be accurately assessed. Having placed the "virtual" implants and determined their proposed locations and orientations, a series of laser-fabricated SurgiGuides (surgical drill guides) can be made. The surgeon simply specifies the drill diameters to be used, then up to 3 guides will be made with cylinders corresponding to each drill. In this way the treatment plan can be accurately transferred to the surgery for each patient.

Stereolithographic Models

IDT is not just a dental CT scanning company (although it is an area in which we excel). We also create stereolithographic (SLA) anatomical models which are exact replicas (made from acrylic resin) of bony structures such as the skull. SLA models are laser fabricated from the computer data. We can either arrange the CT scan and make the model, or prepare the data from a CT scan that has already taken place.

Cone Beam CT Scanner

IDT is the UK and Ireland exclusive distributor for the i-CAT CT Scanner from Imaging Sciences International. The i-CAT is one of a new generation of CT scanners - known as "cone beam CT" or "CBCT" scanners - designed specifically for in-house dental scans. The i-CAT can be situated in a dental surgery or in a hospital's maxillofacial department. The space required for installation, and the annual running costs, are significantly less than for a conventional CT scanner. Moreover, the patient is exposed to a lower dose of radiation as well.

An i-CAT scan takes about 20 seconds for both dental arches. After the scan the dataset is viewed and analysed using the special software that comes with the i-CAT system. For more detailed analysis the data can be read into implant planning software such as SimPlant. i-CAT datasets are fully compatible with SurgiGuides and Anatomical Models as well.
